In-person Therapy In San Diego, CA + Online Therapy in California and Arizona.
You’ve made it through hard things. Maybe you even became skilled at functioning through the pain. But you are tired, frustrated and deep down, you know there’s more to life than survival. You’re ready for something different— you want to make peace with your past, feel safer in the present, experience more peace-of-mind, and improve your life as well as connect with those you love and positively impact the community at large. That’s where individual therapy with Miriam Chor Freitas, LCSW, comes in!
You Want More Than Just Surviving
You may be dealing with anxiety, trauma, grief, shame, a difficult life transition such as menopause, chronic illness, medical trauma, or feeling stuck in old patterns. Therapy can help you:
Feel less overwhelmed and more grounded
Understand the root of your emotional pain
Shift limiting beliefs that keep you small
Reconnect with your body, your boundaries, and your sense of self
Stop performing and start healing
What Working With Me Looks Like
I’m a seasoned licensed clinical social worker who provides individual counseling to adults using an integrative approach that looks at people as a whole, addressing their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations to help them work through their pain, heal, and thrive. In this process, we will also challenge your negative belief systems and thought patterns to develop more positive ways of looking at yourself and your circumstances.
I offer client-centered therapy that’s compassionate, honest, and body-aware. I won’t hand you a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, we’ll slow down, tune in, and work together in a way that honors your story, your nervous system, and your pace.
Some of the tools and practices we may incorporate include:
Breathwork & grounding exercises
Mindfulness & meditation
Somatic awareness & gentle movement
Parts work
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
Polyvagal-informed interventions
Skills from DBT and relational therapy
My role as a therapist is to guide and support you in processing your pain and rebalancing your nervous system to help you resolve the pain, improve your ability to stay present, plan for the future, and develop a strong sense of self-worth, self-compassion, and practice a loving self-care routine that nourishes your cognitive, emotional and physical well-being.
A Multicultural, Multilingual Approach Rooted in Respect
As a multicultural psychotherapist originally from Brazil, I truly respect and appreciate diversity. I speak English, Portuguese, and Spanish, and I offer therapy in any of these languages. I have had the privilege of working with a very diverse population, including immigrants, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ community, and other underprivileged and/or marginalized groups. I recognize the impact of privilege, systemic socio-economic oppression, stigma, and discrimination on these communities, and I am deeply committed to providing a safe space where inclusivity, empowerment, social justice, and resilience are paramount values to people’s mental, emotional, and physical health.
Building Resilience, Connection, and Confidence
The ultimate goal of our work together is resilience—your capacity to face life’s challenges with strength, flexibility, and hope. Over time, you will feel more confident, you will learn to respond differently, access your inner resources, and you will see that your challenges can be opportunities for growth, empowerment, and personal fulfillment that will impact all areas of your life! about
Over time, you’ll begin to notice:
A greater sense of self-worth and self-trust
Healthier boundaries and relationships
More emotional regulation and inner peace
A shift from survival to growth and empowerment
